We report 4 urogenital Neisseria gonorrhoeae isolates recovered from 3 patients that demonstrated resistance to penicillin, tetracycline, and ciprofloxacin and reduced susceptibility to cefixime. This report of the first 3 patients in the United States identified with this multidrug-resistant strain may portend an emerging problem for clinicians and public health officials.
متن کاملDecreased in vitro susceptibility of Plasmodium falciparum isolates to artesunate, mefloquine, chloroquine, and quinine in Cambodia from 2001 to 2007.
This study describes the results of in vitro antimalarial susceptibility assays and molecular polymorphisms of Plasmodium falciparum isolates from Cambodia. The samples were collected from patients enrolled in therapeutic efficacy studies (TES) conducted by the Cambodian National Malaria Control Program for the routine efficacy monitoring of artemisinin-based combination therapy (ACT) (artesuna...
متن کاملDecreased Susceptibility of Neisseria Gonorrhoeae to Fluoroquinolones
Antibiotic-resistant isolates of Neisseria gonorrhoeae remain an important public health problem. Fluoroquinolones, such as ciprofloxacin, have excellent penetration into the genitourinary tract and have been shown to be highly active against N. gonorrhoeae, including penicillinase-producing strains (PPNG). However, strains with decreased susceptibility to fluoroquinolones have been reported in...
متن کاملSalmonella enterica serovar typhi: molecular analysis of strains with decreased susceptibility and resistant to ciprofloxacin in India from 2001-2003.
Chromosomally-mediated reduced susceptibility to ciprofloxacin narrows the therapeutic options in enteric fever. We made a molecular comparison of clinical isolates of fluoroquinolone-resistant strains of Salmonella enterica serotype Typhi from January 2001 to May 2003; 178 isolates were subjected to antimicrobial susceptibility testing by the Kirby-Bauer method of disk diffusion, and agar dilu...
